Tough unheralded Top 10 Welterweight Joshua Clottey makes an appearance tonight on Versus network against Puerto Rican Felix Flores. BoDog.com has posted Boxing betting odds of Joshua Clottey at -1100.
Flores hasn’t fought in over 14 months since he was dominated by Top 20 contender Cosme Rivera. I was sitting ringside for that fight and I felt that for a top level fighter that Flores, 22-5, 16 KO’s, got hit way too much. Having a bad defense is not what you want when you fight Joshua “The Hitter” Clottey.
Josh is fresh off the best victory of his career when he pummeled the late Diego Corrales in a 10 round win. Clottey is a classy Boxer\Puncher who likes to work the body. Clottey, has great tools: Power in both hands, size, fast hands and sound defense. This guy is the truth. Clottey trains in the Bronx and is a Ghanaian native that claims to run anywhere from 9 to 13 mile per day!
Felix Flores is no scrub himself. Flores can bang you out if your there to be hit and he will try to crowd you from round 1. Flores is a game determined pressure fighter who has decent ability and is a C+ level pugilist. Clottey, 31-2, 19 KO’s, is a world-class fighter who might hold the World Title in the near future.
Clottey’s one weakness is that he has fragile hands. If Clottey breaks one of his mitts on Flores’s hard noggin, Felix has a slim chance to pull of an upset. Felix Flores is a vet with a hard head and since the fight is in Las Vegas the fighters will be required to were 10 Oz. Gloves instead of 8 Oz. Because of the bigger gloves I have to believe Flores will be tough enough to last the distance.
