Rafael Marquez shattered Vazquez’s beak in the first round last time, forcing the champ to gulp down his own blood for the entire slugfest. Vazquez had his moments though, placing Marquez on his ass with a searing left hook in the 3rd before retiring on his stool after the seventh round. The fight was an instant classic leaving boxing fans drooling for another dose of Vasquez vs Marquez. Boxer\Puncher Vasquez is mad that he lost his World 122 Lb. Title that night therefore compelling him to make the return bout as quickly as possible. Israel has replaced Freddie Roach with Rudy Perez who trains legendary Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera. Marquez plans on extinguishing Vasquez as he did the first time only more impressively after an extended training camp.
There are some suspicions that Vasquez’s nose is not completely healed and that he took this fight to soon. We will see. Marquez is better technically and defensively in this match-up. Rafael is a sharpshooter who is regarded as one of the hardest punchers in the game. Vasquez is also a tremendous puncher with grit and determination that is extrodinary. Vasquez is the slightly bigger man but he tends to get hit too often and bleed. Marquez looks a little fresher at this point and it’s hard to see Vasquez turning the tables against a truly great fighter like Marquez. I see this matchup as a 60-40 fight in Marquez’s favor. These guys are both big punchers with average chins and so-so defense so nothing is certain. Expect Marquez to stop live underdog Vasquez late.
