After being hampered by injuries over the past 5 years Vernon finally looked 100% healthy. From the outset Forrest effectively moved, feinted and counterpunched beautifully for 12 rounds. Baldomir was ineffective trying to cut off the ring as Forrest slipped punches, sidestepped and constantly gave Baldomir angles behind the jab. Whenever Carlos was able to get inside Forrest more than held his own with ripping body punches and uppercuts. In the 9th round Baldomir momentarily stunned Vernon but was unable to drop him. Forrest was deducted a point for a low blow after he was stunned in the 9th. Carlos lacked head movement and ate crisp punches to the face all night long. The fight was very entertaining with both men mixing it up to the best of their abilities. Point-Spreads.com Boxing Expert Brad Marchetti predicted a Forrest win recommending a 2 unit wager. "Vernon Forrest should be able to out-box the short 5'7" cut prone Baldomir from the outside and pile up points," stated Marchetti. The jab was a key factor for Vernon as he doubled it up with his long arms. Vernon Forrest has a bright future in the 154 Lb. division having secured the WBC title strap in impressive fashion. Unification fights against belt holders Cory Spinks or Joachim Alcine could be on the horizon for the rejuvinated Spinks. |
