Self, whose squad has won its last 10 meetings with Nebraska by an average of 23.9 points per game, issued what had to be a scary statement for the rest of the teams of the Jayhawks' schedule.
"I don't know if [we] are a team yet," Self said after falling in Knoxville.
Nebraska dropped to 12-4 on Saturday, falling in its first Big 12 contest 53-64 to Texas A&M in College Station. The Huskers are now staring at an 0-2 conference start unless they can find someway to keep their unblemished home record (10-0) intact against, perhaps, the most talented team in the country. Freshman guard Eshaunte Jones, who is averaging 7.3 points per game this season, thinks his team has a chance to do just that.
"We want to compete with them and we want to win," Jones said. "We need to just look at it as another game. It's a big game, but we've played basketball just like they have. To me, it's not going to be any different than any other game. I think if we just stick together as a family and play together, we'll be just fine."
