Georgetown at Villanova 2011 NCAA Basketball Spreads, Odds & Picks

by Reno Gold on Saturday, January 29th, 2011

The eighth-ranked Wildcats of Villanova (17-3) will host No. 21 Georgetown (15-5) in a crucial BIG EAST mens college basketball game Saturday at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia (Noon Eastern, ESPN). The Cats are currently in second place in the BIG EAST standings and need a win to keep pace of league leader Pittsburgh. Keep tabs on the most up to date NCAA Basketball Betting Spreads as you make your plays all season.

The Hoyas backs are against the wall in the BIG EAST standings, currently residing in ninth place with a 4-4 record. Georgetown can hardly afford another league loss and could soon end up falling out of the NCAA Tournament picture.

Odds makers at most offshore sports shops list the Wildcats as 4 1/2-point spreads favorites with a 145 1/2 total. Hoyas backers are getting +170 odds on the offshore moneyline while the Wildcats are giving -100.

Early trends show 84 percent of bettors wagering the money line for Villanova to win the game SU, while 76 percent are risking their bank roll the Wildcats cover the 4 1/2-chalk. The OVER is the favorite totals bet according to 62 percent of bets placed.

Villanova is 12-1 SU and is 7-3 ATS at home this season. On the year, the Wildcats have covered the betting spread in 10-of-16 games lined by oddsmakers.  Georgetown is 5-3 SU and ATS on the road this season and is 12-7 ATS on the season. Over the last 10 games, Villanova is 5-1 ATS at home while Georgetown is 3-1 on the road.

The totals betting trend shows the OVER/UNDER splitting 5-5 in 10 Villanova home games while the OVER has been the best bet in Georgetown away games. These combined totals records, home for Villanova and away for Georgetown add up to 10-7 favoring the OVER.

In recent games, Georgetown has won its last three SU, with two coming on the road, versus Rutgers and Seton Hall, then winning at home over Saint Johns. The Hoyas covered ATS in all three with the OVER cashing in two of three.

Villanova stumbled its last time out to the Providence Friars up in Rhode Island, the last of a three game road stretch. Villanova has covered the betting spread in seven of their last eight games, the lone non-cover coming versus the Friars.

Game Predictions: I predict Georgetown will battle hard, forcing this game to the wire, but Villanova should prevail at home. BEST BET – Villanova -4 1/2.
