The Syracuse Orange are in desperate need of a win and they will attempt to get one against top ranked Connecticut tonight at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut. The Big East showdown tips off at 7:00pm ET and will be televised live on ESPN. Syracuse vs Connecticut college basketball picks at Sportsbook.com are favoring the Huskies -11 against the spread. Connecticut, ranked number one in the AP Poll and number four in the RPI standings, extended their current win streak to eleven games on Saturday, beating Michigan 69-61 in an out of conference battle in Storrs. The Huskies fell 13 points short of their home scoring average but foiled the Wolverines with a suffocating defense and solid three point shooting (43 percent). Center Hasheem Thabeet led the Huskies to a 44- 21 rebounding advantage by grabbing 12 boards and he also frustrated Michigan's interior offense by recording six of Connecticut's seven blocks. UConn, now 22-1 overall, is in first place in the Big East with a 10-1 conference record. They are 10-1 at the Gampel Pavilion this year, their only home loss coming back in December against Georgetown. Jim Calhoun's team is averaging 82 points per game in home action and allowing a paltry 59.9. Syracuse looked as if they had returned to their glory days through the season's first 17 games, but things have gone awry for the Orange since they entered the meat of their conference schedule. Jim Boeheim's squad has won just two of their last seven games, dropping their Big East record to 6-5. The Orange last played on Saturday, losing 85-102 to the red hot Villanova Wildcats. Syracuse not only shot poorly in the contest, hitting just 24-of-63 field goal attempts and 10-of-29 three point shots, they were also outrebounded 44 to 33 in the loss. Guard Jonny Flynn did score 22 points but Syracuse's defense could not contain Villanova forward Dante Cunningham. The senior scored 31 points and grabbed nine boards. Boeheim's troops are now 18-6 overall and 3-3 in road games. They average 73.5 points per game away from the Carrier Dome but give up 75.2 in opposing venues. Their last road win came on January 10th against 10-14 Rutgers. Sportsbook.com's Syracuse vs Connecticut College Basketball Picks: Syracuse Orange +11 (-110), Over 149 (-110), +500 (Moneyline) Connecticut Huskies -11 (-110), Under 149 (-110), -700 (Moneyline) |
