The Michigan State Spartans will attempt to claim a share of the Big Ten lead tonight when they host No. 15 Wisconsin at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing. This evening’s rivalry tilt is scheduled to tip off at 7:00pm ET on ESPN. NCAA Basketball Point Spreads have the Spartans listed as a -6 against the spread home favorite and the game total set at 109 points.
Wisconsin comes into tonight’s rematch with Michigan State having won seven of its last eight games. Despite that impressive run and their 19-6 record, the Badgers are presently fourth in the Big Ten standings with an 8-4 league tally.
Wisconsin is still in the Big Ten title race, though, after recording their fifth conference road win last Thursday night in Minnesota. The Badgers won the game 68-61 in overtime despite shooting just 35.8 percent from the field. They overcame their overall shooting woes by knocking down nine three pointers and 21-of-25 from the free throw line.
Wisconsin’s road prowess will be tested in a big way tonight against a Michigan State team that is 15-0 at home and coming off its biggest win of the season. The Spartans, now 20-5 overall and 9-3 in the Big Ten, won their third straight game on Saturday, upsetting the then No. 3 Buckeyes 58-48 in Columbus.
Michigan State, which held the Badgers to 33.3 percent field goal shooting in their 63-60 win over Wisconsin in early January, dominated Ohio State’s offense, limiting Thad Matta’s team to 26.4 percent from the field and 13.3 percent from long range. Offensively Keith Appling, Adreian Payne, and Draymond Green carried the load as they combined for 41 of the team’s 58 points.
The Badgers have won six of the last 10 in this series, but the Spartans have gotten the better of things in recent years, winning four of the last six, including the last three in East Lansing.
