The Syracuse Orangemen, coming of a huge win over Georgetown this weekend of College Basketball Picks look to continue their quest for an NCAA Tournament birth with they visit the streaking Louisville Cardinals. The Orangemen has certainly been successful over the years as they extended the longest active consecutive winning seasons streak in Division I by posting a 24-11 record last year in Coach Jim Beoheim’s 31st season. It was Syracuse’s 37th straight above .500 season. However, missing they did miss NCAA Tourney for only the second time in the last ten years and are hoping the win over the Hoyas plus a victory tonight will be enough to get them into the “Dance”. The Orange certainly hasn’t had problems scoring this season as they average a respectable 79.4 points per game. It’s their defense that has been a bit suspect at times as they give up over 74 points per game on the road this season. One key for the Orange will be to shut down the Louisville Cardinals three point shooters. They haven’t been the most effective at doing that allowing opponents to shoot 34.5% from beyond the arc. The Orangemen will have an uphill battle tonight as they are listed as a rather large +10.5 point underdog at SBGglobal.com
After a slow start to the College Basketball Picks season head coach Rick Pitino looks to have the Louisville Cardinals primed for the NCAA Tournament as they have won five in a row and 11 of their last 13 to post an impressive 20-6 overall mark including a solid 12-2 SU home record. The Louisville bunch, as usual, looks to push the play each time they take the floor for strangely it hasn’t translated into a high scoring offense as they score only an average of 72.6 points per game. It is their defense that has been their best asset as they give up only 55.9 points per game on their home floor. As usual, the Cardinals aren’t afraid to put up the three point shot and they have been effective at home hitting 37% from beyond the arc.
The Orange aren’t assured of an NCAA birth while the Cardinals more than likely will be so added incentive will be placed on Syracuse to win this game. History bodes well for the Orange as they are 14-3 ATS in road games off an upset win over a conference rival as an underdog since 1997 while the Louisville Cardinals are only 2-10 ATS when playing only their 3rd game in a week over the last 2 seasons.
