The North Carolina Tar Heels will play another one of their many in-state rivals this evening when they take on North Carolina State in Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack were no threat to the Tar Heels in the first meeting between these two schools in January, and odds makers are not giving them much of a chance this evening. North Carolina State vs North Carolina College Basketball Picks at Bodoglife.com have them listed as a +20 against the spread road underdog.
This ACC battle is set to tip off at 8:00pm ET at the Dean E. Smith Center; it will be televised live on ESPN's Pay-Per-View Full Court.
The first meeting between these two squads was anything but a competitive affair. North Carolina pasted the Wolfpack by a score of 93-76 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, NC. The Tar Heels hit 35 of their 62 field goal attempts and 18-of-20 from the charity stripe. Senior Tyler Hansbrough dropped in 12 of his 17 shots from the floor and scored a game high 31 points. All five Tar Heel starters reached double figures in scoring in the decisive victory.
North Carolina has won four straight since their meeting with the Wolfpack and at 9-2 in ACC play, they have a two game lead over second place Clemson (7-4). They are also ranked third in the nation in the AP Poll with a 23-2 overall record.
The Tar Heels last played on Sunday night, beating the Miami Hurricanes 69-65 in Coral Gables, FL. The Hurricane defense held UNC to 38.8 percent field goal shooting, which resulted in the Tar Heels lowest point total of the season.
Roy Williams team is 11-1 at the Dean E. Smith Center this year, their only loss being a 78-85 stunner at the hands of Boston College. North Carolina is averaging 92.8 points per game in Chapel Hill and they yield an average of just 70.9 to visiting squads.
The Wolfpack, currently ninth in the ACC standings with a 4-6 conference record, have lost seven of their last twelve games; however, they have won their last two outings by a combined 27 points. They are 2-6 on the road this season, where they average a meager 68.4 points per game.
