Top ranked Indiana will look to stay atop both the AP and Coaches Polls tonight when it squares off against No. 4 Michigan State at Jack Breslin Student Events Center in East Lansing. This evening’s Big Ten clash between the Hoosiers and Spartans is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm ET on ESPN. The latest NCAA Basketball Point Spreads have Michigan State listed as a -1.5 against the spread home favorite; the Over/Under is set at 141 points.
When these two teams locked horns in Bloomington on January 27th then No. 7 Indiana prevailed 75-70 to score just its third win in its last 10 meetings with Michigan State. The Hoosiers got just nine points from star forward Cody Zeller, but a 21 point, seven rebound, six steal, three block effort from Victor Oladipo made up for Zeller’s 2-for-7 performance.
Despite the outcome of that contest, the odds makers, after mistakenly listing Michigan as a road favorite against Michigan State last Tuesday, are going with the Spartans. Tom Izzo’s troops have reeled off five straight wins since their first showdown with Indiana, knocking off Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan, and, most recently, Nebraska. The Spartans are also a perfect 15-0 at home this season where they have thwarted visiting opposition by an average of 16.2 points per game.
Nonetheless, the Hoosiers are probably better equipped than any of Michigan State’s previous competition to score an upset win at the Breslin Center. Indiana is 5-1 since beating the Spartans with wins over Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Purdue. The Hoosiers lone loss in that stretch came in Champaign, Illinois where they fell 74-72 to the Fighting Illini. Indiana was listed as a 7.5 road favorite against Illinois. Apart from that setback, Tom Crean’s squad is 5-0 away from home with conference wins over Iowa, Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, and Ohio State.
