oklahoma state smartThe Big 12 title could be on the line tonight as Kansas seeks to avenge its February 2nd home loss to Oklahoma State. This evening’s clash between the Jayhawks and Cowboys is scheduled to tip off at 9:00pm ET at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater; the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. The latest College Basketball Point Spreads have Oklahoma State listed as a -1 against the spread home favorite and the game total set at 136.5 points.

When these two squads first hooked up Kansas had won 15 straight games and its last 33 at Allen Fieldhouse. Understandably the Jayhawks were a heavy 9.5 point favorite; however, none of those things kept Oklahoma State from pulling off a stunning 85-80 upset.

The Cowboys guard duo of Markel Brown and Marcus Smart proved too much for the Jayhawks defense as they combined for 53 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Kansas got 23 points from Ben McLemore in the losing effort while Kevin Young and Jeff Withey finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.

That setback sent Bill Self’s squad into a bit of a tailspin as they dropped their next two games, but Kansas looks to be back on track now. The Jayhawks, who are 21-4 overall and 9-3 in conference play, are 2-0 in their last two outings, laying double digit thrashings on Big 12 leader Kansas State (10-3) and eighth place Texas in Lawrence.

Oklahoma State (19-5 overall, 9-3 conference), which is 13-1 at Gallagher-Iba this season, rides a seven game winning streak into tonight’s contest. Prior to defeating the Jayhawks the Cowboys knocked off West Virginia and Iowa State; since their win in Lawrence they have taken out Baylor, Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma by an average of 11 points per game. Oklahoma State last played on Saturday when it earned an 84-79 overtime victory in Stillwater over the in-state rival Sooners.

Kansas has won seven of the last 10 meetings between these two schools, but the Cowboys are 2-1 in their last three games against the Jayahwks at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
