The Memphis Tigers will try to continue their dominating Conference USA run this evening when they take the UAB Blazers in Birmingham, Alabama. Memphis has won 54 conference games in a row, a streak that originated almost three years ago. UAB was the last CUSA team to beat Memphis, but they were defeated 81-68 by the Tigers last month at the FedEX Forum. Tonight's game tips off at 9:00pm ET at the Bartow Arena and will broadcast live on ESPN.
Memphis vs UAB Free College Basketball Picks at Sportsbook.com are favoring the Tigers -4.5 against the spread.
In addition to their 54 game conference win streak, Memphis also has an 18 game win streak on the line tonight. Certainly a loss would not be the end of the world for the Tigers as they are 12-0 in Conference USA action and have a three game lead over the Blazers with three games left, but it would most definitely sting.
John Calipari's troops last played on Saturday at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. They took UTEP to the woodshed, beating them by a score of 70-63 on their home court. The difference in the game was the 25 points that the Tigers got from freshman guard Tyreke Evans as well as the 20 free throws that Memphis dropped in on 30 attempts.
Memphis, currently ranked fifth in the AP Poll and eighth in the RPI, is 9-1 on the road this season. They average 69.6 points per game in opposing venues, a total that is almost seven points fewer than their season average. They hold host squads to an average of 60.1 points per game.
UAB, who has a 9-3 CUSA record and a 19-8 overall mark, has a nice win streak of its own going. The Blazers have reeled off six straight since their loss at Tulsa on January 28th. Their latest victory was a 86-56 win versus Southern Mississippi at the Bartow Arena on Saturday.
Mike Davis watched as his team subjugated the Golden Eagles by hitting 30-of-54 from the field and 15-of-27 from beyond the arc. Four Blazers reached double figures in scoring, but guards Robert Vaden and Channing Toney led the way with 22 points apiece.
UAB has amassed an impressive 12-0 record in Birmingham this year. They pour in an average of 76.9 points per game at Bartow and allow their opposition a meager 57.7 per game.
