No. 1 Ohio State wrapped up the Big Ten title yesterday with Purdue's shocking loss to Iowa, but it still has much to play for in this afternoon's showdown with Wisconsin. Not only can the Buckeyes exact revenge for a 67-71 February 12th loss to the Badgers, they can also lock up a No. 1 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Today's game is scheduled to get underway at 4:00pm ET at the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio (CBS). The latest College Basketball Lines have Ohio State listed as a -7.5 against the spread NCAA basketball predictions home favorite and the Over/Under set at 128.5.
Wisconsin is probably in three seed territory at this juncture, but a win over the Buckeyes today and the Badgers could easily grab hold of a two seed. Bo Ryan's squad has certainly played at a high level down the stretch, winning eight of its last nine games and four in a row coming into this afternoon's dust up with the Buckeyes.
Indiana served as the Badgers latest victim, falling 67-77 to Wisconsin at Assembly Hall in Bloomington on Thursday night. The Badgers shot an unbelievable 56.3 percent from beyond the arc as junior Jordan Taylor connected on seven of his eight three point attempts. Taylor finished the game with a career high 39 points.
Wisconsin also took advantage of its free throw opportunities, connecting on 20-of-22 from the charity stripe in improving its record to 23-6 overall and 13-4 in Big Ten play.
Ohio State, which gave up 12 three pointers to the Badgers in its loss at Wisconsin last month, recorded its third straight win on Tuesday night with an 82-61 beating of the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley.
Freshman forward Jared Sullinger recorded a 10 point, 10 rebound double double, but it was the shooting touch of Jon Diebler that led to the Buckeyes easy victory. Diebler nailed 10-of-12 from long range to finish the game with 30 points. William Buford also scored in double digits for Head Coach Thad Motta; the junior guard tallied 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
Ohio State, which owns a 28-2 record (15-2 Big Ten, 19-0 home), has lost four of its last six games against Wisconsin. The Buckeyes did win their last home game against the Badgers, though, recording a 60-51 victory last January in Columbus.
