Marquette vs Villanova College Basketball Picks – March 11th, 2010: Marquette and Villanova meet for the third time this season as they clash in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament this afternoon. The game is set to tip off at 2:00pm ET at Madison Square Garden in New York; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. College basketball picks at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com have the Wildcats listed as a -5 against the spread favorite.
Villanova finished fourth in the Big East this season with a 24-6 overall record and a 13-5 conference tally. The Wildcats,
currently ranked No. 10 in the AP Poll, faltered down the stretch, though, losing four of their last six games, including their regular season finale. West Virginia scored a 68-66 overtime win at Villanova.
Despite their recent troubles, Jay Wright's squad does have two wins over Marquette to hang their hat on. However, those victories were by a combined four points as Nova won 74-72 in Milwaukee on January 2nd and 78-76 in Philadelphia on January 9th. Senior guard Scottie Reynolds had a combined 38 points in the two narrow triumphs.
Marquette, which closed out the regular season with a 20-10 record and an 11-7 league mark, advanced to today's quarterfinal battle with a 57-55 win over St. John's yesterday. The Golden Eagles got outrebounded 32 to 23 by the Red Storm, but they shot 53 percent from the field and 56 percent from beyond the arc to secure the important victory. Senior forward Lazar Hayward led his team with 20 points and nine rebounds.
