The Louisville Cardinals and the Villanova Wildcats have advanced to the Big East Tournament semifinals and will face each other tonight at Madison Square Garden. The two teams last met in January with Louisville securing a 61-60 win at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. VIllanova closed out the regular portion of their schedule with a 26-6 record and a 13-5 mark in Big East action. They finished in fourth place in the 16 team conference, edging Marquette by a game in the standings while falling two short of Connecticut. The Wildcats played the Golden Eagles last night in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament; they came away with a dramatic 76-75 victory.

Marquette hit 40 percent from beyond the arc in the close battle, but a last second layup by forward Dwayne Anderson gave Villanova the win. The Wildcats were paced by guard Scottie Reynolds who had 21 points and eight rebounds. Reserve guard Corey Stokes complemented Reynolds effort by dropping in 20 points of his own. Villanova hit 24-of-57 from the field, but connected on 22 of their 27 free throw attempts in the big victory.

Jay Wright's squad is 3-1 in neutral site games this season, their only loss coming against Texas at Madison Square Garden on December 9th. The Wildcats are averaging a stellar 77.2 points per game this year while giving up 66.9.

Louisville capped off their regular season by winning the Big East crown. They cemented the title and a 16-2 conference record by beating West Virginia 62-59 in Morgantown last Saturday. They ran their overall record to 26-5 last night with a relatively easy 73-55 win over the Providence Friars at Madison Square Garden. The quarterfinals triumph marked the Cardinals eighth consecutive win.

Rick Pitino's club harassed the Friars into a ridiculous 26 turnovers and forced them to a miserable 11.8 percent from beyond the arc. While they were not lighting things up from the outside either, they did manage to hit 48.4 percent from the field. Forwards Samardo Samuels and Earl Clark led the way as they combined for 46 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists. The two players hit 20 of their 28 field goal attempts.

The Cardinals, who average 74 points per game, are 2-2 in neutral site affairs this year after last night's win over Providence.
