2010 March Madness Brackets: It is Selection Sunday and teams from all over the country will camp out in front of television sets this afternoon to discover their NCAA Tournament fate. While this afternoon's proceedings will produce a great deal of drama, the announcement of the No. 1 seeds, most likely, will not. It is all but a lock that Kansas, Syracuse, Kentucky, and Duke will be the four ones, with the Jayhawks coming in as the Tournament's top squad. Online bookmaker SPORTSBETTING.com has Bill Self's team listed as a +150 moneyline favorite in their 2010 March Madness Brackets to win the National Championship.
Kansas improved to 31-2 yesterday after capturing its seventh Big 12 Tournament Championship. The Jayhawks stellar
feat, which required beating No. 9 Kansas State a third time, guaranteed them the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region. Kansas will now head to Oklahoma City, which is a mere 274 miles from Lawrence, for the first two rounds of action. Should Self's troops survive and advance, they will head to St. Louis for the Regionals.
Kentucky, regardless of what happens in today's SEC Championship Game against Mississippi State, has wrapped up the one seed in the East Region. The Wildcats tore through the regular season, going 29-2, and they entered their conference tournament ranked No. 2 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. As a result, Kentucky will almost certainly head to Milwaukee for rounds one and two and then to Syracuse for the Regionals, should they advance.
Syracuse dropped its second straight game when Georgetown beat the Orange 91-84 in Thursday's Big East Tournament action; however, Jim Boeheim's squad still finished first in the powerhouse conference this year with a 28-3 regular season record and a 15-3 league tally. Their performance of late, as well as the injury to big man Arinze Onuaku, should not be enough to rob them of the top seed in either the South or West Regions. Should the Orange get the South Region, they will play rounds one and two in Buffalo and then head to Houston for the Regionals.
Duke, especially after its run to this afternoon's ACC Torunament Championship Game, will probably get the top seed in the West Region. That means the Blue Devils, which are presently 28-5 and ranked No. 4 in both polls, will head to Jacksonville for the first two rounds of play and then to Salt Lake City if they are fortunate/good enough to grab two opening weekend wins.
