March Madness 2013 Picks

duke coach kIt’s championship week in college basketball, but with the start of the NCAA Tournament a mere five days away, thoughts are beginning to drift toward Selection Sunday. According to the latest projections, the tournament committee is expected to make Indiana, Duke, Louisville, and Gonzaga the four No. 1 seeds. The odds makers at have a different take, albeit a slight one, as to which teams are the biggest threats to win it all. March Madness 2013 Picks at the offshore book have Indiana, Duke, Louisville, and Florida listed as a four favorites to win the National Championship. Those four schools are drawing +450, +500, +600, and +700 odds respectively.

Indiana is the current favorite to win the NCAA Tournament, but Mike Krzyzewski’s Blue Devils are garnering a lot of championship support. Duke has played excellent basketball down the stretch, posting a 11-2 record in its last 13 games, and when it is on, it looks nearly unbeatable.

The Blue Devils showed just how dangerous they can be in their regular season finale opposite North Carolina. Duke, playing as a two point road dog, demonstrated their prowess at both ends of the floor, wiping out a hot Tar Heels squad 69-53 (UNC had won six straight games and it had only lost one home game all season) in Chapel Hill. The Blue Devils, who rank ninth in the nation in points per game (78.4), shot 55.1 percent from the field and they limited North Carolina’s potent offense to 33.9 percent shooting.

Duke does own some head scratching road losses (90-63 at Miami, 83-81 at Maryland), but it has not lost a home or neutral site game all season long. It’s unblemished record in those contests was not for a lack of being tested, though. Coach K’s troops defeated Kentucky, Minnesota, VCU, Louisville, Temple, and Davidson in neutral site play and they knocked off Ohio State, North Carolina State, North Carolina, and Miami in Durham.
