The 14 seed American University Eagles are set to take on the three seed Villanova Wildcats at 7:20pm ET on Thursday. The East Region game will be played at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Villanova's home away from home. Which ever squad prevails will meet the winner of the UCLA/Virginia Commonwealth game. American vs Villanova March Madness Picks at Bodoglife.com have the Wildcats pegged as a -17 against the spread favorite. American dominated the Patriot League this year, going 13-1 in league play and capturing the automatic bid tournament title last Friday night by beating Holy Cross 73-57. The victory was the Eagles 24th of the season and it garnered them their second straight, as well as second ever, NCAA Tournament appearance. The Eagles, who are listed at 1100 to 1 odds to win the national championship, have not played in a neutral site game all season long. Guard Garrison Carr leads American with a 17.8 point per game average. Villanova finished the regular season in fourth place in the Big East with a 13-5 conference record and a 26-7 overall mark. The Wildcats locked up a three seed in the East Region by collecting wins against the likes of Pittsburgh, Marquette, Syracuse, and Temple. However, they were not able to get by Big East champion Louisville during the season or in the conference tournament. The Cardinals dispatched the Wildcats 69-55 in the league semifinals last Friday in New York. Jay Wright's squad, which is listed at 20 to 1 odds to win the NCAA Tournament, is 4-2 in neutral site games this year. The Wildcats, who split home games between the Wachovia Center and The Pavilion, suffered their only two home losses of the season at Wachovia (Louisville, Georgetown). Forward Dante Cunningham and guard Scottie Reynolds pace the Villanova attack; the two players combine for 30.5 points per game. Bodoglife.com's American vs Villanova March Madness Picks: American Eagles +17 (-115) Villanova Wildcats -17 (-105) |
