Texas A&M finished fourth this season in the Big 12 standings after accumulating a 23-9 overall record and a 9-7 mark in league action. The Aggies were ousted prematurely from the Big 12 Championship by a dramatic Texas Tech come-from-behind 88-83 win. However, Mark Turgeon's club has won six of their last seven contests, including a home defeat of the West Region's three seed, the Missouri Tigers.
The Aggies, who are 1-1 in neutral site games, averaged 71.7 per outing during the regular season. Combo guard Josh Carter leads the team in scoring at 14.1 per game; he is one of four A&M players to average double figures in points.
Brigham Young took the Mountain West regular season crown this year with a 25-7 record and a 12-4 tally in conference play. Despite their dominance in the league, they were stopped in the second round of the Mountain West Tournament by the San Diego State Aztecs. The disappointing loss was just the second one suffered by the Cougars in their last 12 games.
BYU is 2-2 in neutral site games this season, with the losses coming against the aforementioned Aztecs and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Guards Lee Cummard and Jimmer Fredette, along with forward Jonathan Tavernari, average a combined 48.9 points, 16.6 rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game.
The Cougars are listed at +30000 moneyline odds to win the National Championship.
