The Big 10's Minnesota Golden Gophers will take on the Texas Longhorns out of the Big 12 conference at 7:10pm ET on Thursday night. The two teams will meet in the East Region opening round at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. Should Minnesota upset Texas, they will move on to face either Duke or Binghamton on March 21st. The Texas Longhorns had a good season but they did not live up to preseason expectations which had them challenging Oklahoma for the Big 12 title. Instead, they finished a distant sixth in the conference standings with a 9-7 record against league opposition. The Longhorns, winners of just three of their last six games, come into Thursday's game with a 22-11 mark after being ousted 70-76 by the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Championship semifinals. Texas, which is listed at +375 moneyline odds to reach the Sweet 16, is 5-2 in neutral site games this year. The Longhorns had four players average double figures in scoring during the regular season, led by guard A.J. Abrams 16.3 per game. Minnesota finished the year in seventh place in the Big 10 with a 9-9 record versus conference competition. They ran their overall record to 22-10 after losing to Michigan State 64-56 in the quarterfinals of the Big 10 tournament. The Golden Gophers have lost seven of their last 11 games entering NCAA Tournament play. Minnesota, which is 2-1 in neutral site games this season, averages 66.5 points per game while yielding 61.1 to their opponents. They only have one player that averages double figures in scoring, that being guard Lawrence Westbrook at 12.4 per game.
