Ty Lawson OUT of UNC NCAA Tournament Opener?

by Thomas Jensen on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Ty Lawson OUT of UNC NCAA Tournament Opener?According to North Carolina head coach Roy Williams, ACC Player of the Year and Tar Heels star Ty Lawson will most likely sit out of UNC's game against No. 16 seed Radford in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday. The current line on the game lists North Carolina as -25 point favorites against No. 16th seed Radford with the total set at 163 points.

"There's a huge probability that Ty will not play tomorrow," stated North Carolina head coach Roy Williams Wednesday afternoon. "We're still trying to wait and see. He was not able to do the things I wanted him to do in practice. Some things will have to change drastically before I will change my mind on that."

Ty Lawson did practice in Chapel Hill on Wednesday morning and later in the day was seen jogging with the rest of the Tar Heels squad at the Greensboro Coliseum. The UNC star sat out North Carolina's two ACC Tournament games, one of which was a loss to underdog Florida State and was unable to perform at full-speed in a game like simulation.

"I could barely walk without limping," stated Ty Lawson. "Now I'm walking fine, and I'm able to run with a slow jog and sprint a little bit. It's way better now."

Ty Lawson is a game time decision but bettors have already jumped all over Radford driving the opening line from UNC -27 down to -25 points.  Sign up at Sportsbook.com and enter their $12 Million Dollar Perfect Bracket Contest NOW!
