California is 8-1 against non-conference competition at home this season. The Bears are led by sophomore F Ryan Anderson, a first-team All-Pac-10 choice and second-team All-American (The Sporting News). Anderson leads the conference in scoring at 21.3 ppg and is third in the league in rebounding with 10.0 rpg. Sophomore G Patrick Christopher, an honorable mention All-Pac-10 choice, contributes 15.8 ppg.  The Bears led the Pac-10 in scoring at 77.3 points per game. Cal has averaged 80.5 ppg in non-conference games this year. California head coach Ben Braun knows that his team would have preferred to be in the NCAA Tourney but they still are happy to be playing.

“I know to a man that our team want to continue playing, but I also know to a man that, just like any team, your goal is to get to the NCAA,” he said, “I don't care what team you are, you have to come with grips with that at some point, and when you can't get in – whether you lose you opportunity in the season or you don't have an opportunity in the Pac-10 tournament – now you readjust your goals. But this is a challenging year in the Pac-10. I think our guys have put it in perspective. They want to continue playing. If you look around the field of the NIT tournament, my goodness, there are some good basketball teams. It's amazing.”
