With or without star point guard Ty Lawnson, UNC are still the favorites to in today's 2009 NCAA Tournament. The oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have the North Carolina Tar Heels listed at +300 odds to win the big dance.

Views from various sports handicappers, sports reporters, fans and even the President of the United States Barack Obama have weighed in on North Carolina's chance to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament this year. Several have the ACC powerhouse and No. 1 seed in the South Region as part of their Final Four Predictions, but one expert sports handicapper has a different opinion.

“My 2009 Final Four Picks are Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Missouri,” stated Point-Spreads.com College Basketball Handicapper Matt Foust. “And I will take Pitt to win it all. You should bet on Pitt +600 odds to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament now while you can!”

Foust believes that Big East powerhouse Syracuse will win the South Regional over UNC as well as over No. 2 seed Oklahoma.  Syracuse is listed at +1500 odds to win the 2009 NCAA Tournament and +600 odds to win the South Regional.

With our without Lawson, UNC should cruise through the first few rounds all the way to the South Regional Finals on March 29th.  Syracuse on the other hand will have to overcome Oklahoma if they are to meet UNC in the South Regional Finals. Sportsbook.com has Oklahoma +350 odds to win the South and +1200 odds to win the NCAA Tournament.

"The Tar Heels might have played their best game of the season when they dominated Michigan State in the ACC/Big Ten match up at Ford Field," stated ESPN Basketball Analyst Dick Vitale in his column on USA Today. "Familiarity with the surroundings of this huge stadium could be an advantage for North Carolina. Here is my Final Four: Louisville, Connecticut, Pittsburgh and North Carolina. And my friends, when the NCAA hoop hysteria is finalized, and the party is completed, Franklin Street will have the Tar Heels faithful dancing with joy."

The 2009 NCA Tournament is tipping off today at Noon, we will all certainly find out if North Carolina will win the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship or if they will embarrass President Barack Obama who took the Tar Heels as his National Championship in his 2009 NCAA Bracket for ESPN.
