George Mason vs Ohio State 2011 NCAA Bracket Predictions

by Matt Foust on Sunday, March 20th, 2011

George Mason, like it did in 2006, has an opportunity to destroy brackets across the country as it takes on the No. 1 overall seed, Ohio State. The Patriots are set to square off against the Buckeyes at 5:15pm ET at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio; the game will be broadcast live on CBS. The latest College Basketball Lines have Ohio State listed as a -11 college basketball picks favorite and the Over/Under set at 135.

George Mason, which had posted an 0-3 NCAA Tournament record prior to its run to the Final Four in 2006, tallied its first George Mason vs Ohio State 2011 NCAA Bracket PredictionsBig Dance victory since that epic march on Friday. The Patriots turned back a reeling Villanova squad 61-57 to earn a shot at the Buckeyes.

George Mason limited the Wildcats to 36.5 percent field goal shooting on 52 attempts; the Patriots managed a still paltry 40.4 percent on the same number of field goals.

Luke Hancock, Mike Morrison, and Isaiah Tate, who played 29 minutes off the bench, all finished in double figures for Head Coach Jim Larranaga. Hancock led the way with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting, but Morrison, who also grabbed 11 boards, was the more efficient player, connecting on five of his six shot attempts.

Ohio State won its eighth straight game on Friday, destorying play in winner Texas-San Antonio 75-46. The Buckeye, as expected, were dominant on both ends of the floor.

The Roadrunners shot just 34 percent for the game while Thad Matta's troops hit 29-of-52 from the field (55.8 percent) and 12-of-24 from beyond the arc. Jon Diebler and Will Buford did most of the damage from long range, Diebler connecting on 4-of-8 from downtown while Buford knocked down 3-of-5 from the same distance.

Jared Sullinger scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting; the freshman also grabbed nine boards and came up with three steals in his 28 minutes of action.

While the Buckeyes defeated Georgia Tech 75-66 in last year's second round, the round of 32 has traditionally been a scary place for Ohio State. Since 1980 OSU is 5-8 in its second game
