by Matt Foust on Sunday, March 20th, 2011

This afternoon's meeting between Michigan and the West Region's top seed, Duke, would have had plenty of intrigue on its own, but the recent "Fab Five" documentary which aired on ESPN has added some extra spice to today's proceedings. The game between the two power conference players is scheduled to tip off at 2:45pm ET at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte; it will be televised live on CBS. College Basketball Lines have the Blue Devils pegged as a -12.5 NCAA basketball predictions favorite and the Over/Under set at 136.

Well, if Duke or any of its African American players were feeling lax about today's game, they are no longer, not if they Michigan vs Duke 2011 NCAA Bracket Picksviewed ESPN's "Fab Five" documentary anyway. While none of Michigan's current players had anything to do with the Duke animosity that existed the hearts of Jalen Rose or Jimmy King, Duke's black players would probably like to make a statement this afternoon on behalf of those that came before them if not to Rose himself.

Or maybe they could careless, after all, Coach K's teams, like Charlie Sheen, seem to be more about winning, a motivation that probably would have served Rose and company well all those years ago.

Jon Beilein's squad is, no doubt, more concerned about winning than anything else as it enter's today game…there is no score to settle, no point to prove for this team. And the current batch of Wolverines just might have a chance given their play of late.

Michigan won for the fourth time in its last five games on Friday, destroying an embattled Tennessee Volunteers team 75-45. The Wolverines, which attempted just one free throw in the drubbing, had five players score in double figures, including Zack Novak, who accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Michigan also played lights out defense, limiting Tennessee to 34.9 percent field goal shooting while forcing 18 Volunteer turnovers.

Duke was also in fine form on Friday, pounding 16 seed Hampton 87-45. Freshman guard Kyrie Irving, who played for the first time since a December 4th meeting with Butler, led the Blue Devils with 14 points. Irving did not start the game but he and fellow guard Andre Dawkins both saw 20 minutes of action.

Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler, Duke's two biggest names, combined for 20 points, five rebounds, and eight assists in the easy win.

Michigan won the last get together between these two schools 81-73 in Ann Arbor (12/06/08). That victory snapped a seven game losing streak to the Blue Devils, a streak which the Fab Five certainly had a hand in creating.
