Dayton vs Kansas NCAA Tournament Picks at Sportsbook.com have the Jayhawks listed as a -8 against the spread favorite.
Dayton scored a big win on Friday over a team that many preceived to be peaking at the right time. Despite what people felt about West Virginia, the Flyers kept the Mountaineers at arm's length the entire game in securing a 68-60 first round victory. Dayton, which holds teams to average of 61.5 points per game, is now 27-7 overall and 4-1 in neutral site games.
The Flyers shot 46.3 percent from the floor as a team while holding West Virginia to 36.7 percent. They also limited the Mountaineers to 25 percent from beyond the arc. Offensively Dayton got a huge effort from forward Chris Wright. The Flyers leading scorer poured in 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting and grabbed 10 boards in the win.
Kansas had their first successful title defense, but it did not come easy against a scrappy North Dakota State squad. The Jayhawks eventually prevailed 84-74 but they knew they were in a fight from the opening tip off on. Bill Self's squad, now 26-7 overall, garnered their seventh win in their last nine games and just their second neutral site win in five attempts.
The Jayhawks overcame 37 points from Bison guard Ben Woodside by getting big performances from both of their stars. Guard Sherron Collins had 32 points and eight assists while center Cole Aldrich scored 23 and reeled in 13 boards. As a team Kansas hit 50 percent from the field and they knocked down 16 of their 20 free throw attempts.
