NIT Betting Preview: California at Ohio State

Ohio State will try and continue to move through the NIT as they host California on Monday night.  The Buckeyes had no trouble in the first round as they routed UNC Asheville 84-66.  California just got by New Mexico 68-66 in their first round game.  Ohio State is making its eighth appearance in the NIT all time. Overall, the Buckeyes have a 14-7 record in the NIT. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking Ohio State at Home.

Ohio State is 7-9 overall in the series with California but the teams have not played in 48 years.  The last time they met was in 1960 for the National Championship in a game that the Buckeyes won 75-55.  Tonight’s game will be played at St. John Arena where the Buckeyes only played once this season.  That was a 90-57 win over VMI.  The Buckeyes played in the Arena until 1997-98.  They have played only two games at the arena since that time, one this year.  The Buckeyes are 428-151 at St. John Arena in their history.

Cal is in the NIT for the sixth time and owns an 11-4 record in the event. The Bears won the championship in 1999 and reached the quarterfinals in both 1987 and 2000. California is led by sophomore forward Ryan Anderson who had 26 points in the win over New Mexico.  He was a first-team All-Pac-10 choice and second-team All-American and led the Pac-10 in scoring with 21.4 ppg and was third in the league in rebounding with 9.9 rpg. As a team, the Bears led the Pac-10 in scoring with 77.0 ppg.  California is 6-7 on the road this season.
