The Southeast Region's No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will square off this evening in a regional semifinal battle at the New Orleans Arena in Louisiana. Tonight's game between Florida and BYU is scheduled to tip off at 7:27pm ET on TBS. College Basketball Lines have the Gators listed as a -3 college basketball picks favorite and the Over/Under set at 149.
BYU lost two of its final five games before beginning NCAA Tournament play, but the Cougars, which are now 32-4 on the
season, did not let the lackluster finish derail their postseason plans.
Jimmer Fredette and company struggled some in their opening round game against Wofford, beating the Terriers 74-66 to earn a push (-8) for their backers. BYU shot just 39.3 percent in the victory as Fredette, who finished with 32 points, missed 15 of his 25 shot attempts.
The Cougars would not expereince the same difficulties in their round of 32 meeting with Gonzaga. BYU won the game 89-67 after hitting 31-of-59 from the field and 14-of-28 from beyond the arc. Fredette, as he usually does, powered the offense with 34 points and six assists.
Florida, which lost to Fredette and his cohorts 92-99 in the first round of last year's tournament, advanced to the regional semifinals for the third time in the last six years by beating California-Santa Barbara 79-51 and UCLA 73-65.
The Gators had a hot hand in both contests, shooting 54.7 percent against the Gauchos and 50 percent against the Bruins. Erving Walker led Billy Donovan's squad in scoring on each occasion, dropping 18 in Florida's first outing and 21 in its second.
The Gators defense, which has limited its opposition to a 42.3 percent from the field on the season, held UCSB to 36.2 percent and UCLA to 41.8 percent field goal shooting.
