The 2011 NCAA Tournament Regional Semifinals conclude tonight as the 11th seeded Virginia Commonwealth Rams take on the 10th seeded Florida State Seminoles in a Southwest Region battle at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. This evening's nightcap is slated for a 9:57pm ET tip on TBS. College Basketball Lines have the Seminoles listed as a -4 against the spread NCAA basketball predictions favorite and the game total set at 131.
Virginia Commonwealth, after its loss to Old Dominion in the championship game of Colonial Athletic Association 
postseason tournament, garnered a play-in meeting with USC. The Rams, now 26-11, took out the Trojans 59-46 to earn a shot at the Southwest Region No. 6 seed, Georgetown.
VCU easily mowed through the reeling Hoyas 74-56 after nailing 12 of their 25 attempts from beyond the arc. The Rams were not all offense in the upset, though, as they forced Georgetown into 38.5 percent field goal shooting and 17 turnovers.
For its third NCAA Tournament victory, Virginia Commonwealth scored a huge upset against the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers, an eight point favorite prior to tip off. VCU won the game 94-76 as six Rams reached double figures in scoring. As a team Virginia Commonwealth hit 37 of its 65 field goal attempts.
Florida State looked to have no momentum coming into the NCAA's after losing three of its final five games, but the Seminoles shook off their late season woes to earn wins over Texas A&M (57-50) and Notre Dame (71-57).
FSU, which ranked 26th in points per game allowed (61.7) and first in field goal percentage against (36 percent), held the Aggies and Irish to 31.4 and 30.6 percent field goal shooting respectively. Forward Bernard James, who had 24 points and 16 rebounds in the Seminoles first two outings, played a critical part in FSU's dominating defensive efforts, recording six blocked shots.
VCU has both the depth and skill to pull off the upset tonight, but it has yet to face a defensive team the caliber of Florida State. The Rams' Cinderella story concludes this evening as James and company control this contest in the paint and on the perimeter.
