advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The victory, which was the seventh for the Bears in their last eight games, was highlighted by their 28-of-54 shooting effort and 40 percent tally from beyond the arc.
Guards LaceDarius Dunn and Tweety Carter proved too much for the Monarchs; Dunn pouring in 26 points (9-of-16) and grabbing six boards while Carter scored 12 points and dolled out eight assists. Dunn's big effort helped Baylor overcome a deficit in rebounds, assists, and steals.
St. Mary's continued its unexpected Tournament run over the weekend by upsetting two seed Villanova 75-68. The Gaels defense held the Wildcats to 36 percent field goal shooting while they knocked down 24-of-48 from the floor.
St. Mary's, which has won seven games in a row, got a tremendous effort from big man Omar Samhan. Samhan scored 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting and reeled in seven rebounds.
The Gaels win over Villanova was just their third NCAA Tournament win ever. The school's only win prior to this year's Tournament came in 1959 against Idaho State.
