Michigan State Spartans 2010 Final Four Predictions: College basketball fanatics should be used to seeing the Michigan State University Spartans men's basketball team in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. After all, head coach Tom Izzo has brought his team to college basketball's pinnicle six of the last 12 years, including his current team. Michigan State is the fourth team to appear in six Final Fours in any 12-year span, and just the third since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985. On Saturday, the Spartans will play the Butler Bulldogs, also a five-seed in the 2010 Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament Semi-Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Michigan State won the Midwest Regional as a +1,200 choice at online sportsbook SBG Global.com. And the Spartans began this NCAA tournament getting +5,000 to win the national title. As of Wednesday morning Michigan State is listed at +450 to cut down the nets in Indy on Monday night.
Michigan State (28-8, 15-20 ATS) plays the heavy Saturday. The Spartans went 3-2 during early-season matchups with eventual tournament qualifiers Gonzaga, Florida, Wofford, Oakland, and Texas, then went 14-4 to finish in a tie for first place in the Big 10. But they got beat by Minnesota in the quarters of the conference tournament.
Michigan State then opened the Dance with a 70-67 win over New Mexico State, beat Maryland on a last-second shot 85-83, held off Northern Iowa 59-52 and, in the Midwest Regional final, nipped Tennessee 70-69 to reach the Final Four for the sixth time in the last 12 years.
Unfortunately, during that second-round victory over the Terrapins, the Spartans lost PG Kalin Lucas to a torn Achilles tendon.
