East, Kentucky, 73-66 last weekend to earn a trip to Indianapolis. The victory was the tenth in a row for Bob Huggins' squad and, per usual, it was characterized by some hard-nosed defensive play. The Wildcats shot just 34.3 percent from the floor and a horrific 12.5 percent from beyond the arc against the Mountaineers. Forward Da'Sean Butler led the way offense for Huggins, scoring 18 points to go along with six rebounds.
West Virginia took out Morgan State, Missouri, and Washington in order to garner a Regional Final meeting with Kentucky. The Mountaineers are a perfect 10-0 in neutral site play this season, winning those games by an average of 10.1 points.
Duke reached its first Final Four since 2004 by defeating three seed Baylor in the South Regional Final. The Blue Devils, which appeared in trouble for much of the second half, won the game 78-71 after a couple of late three pointers stole the momentum from the Bears. Guards Nolan Smith and Jon Scheyer were the heroes for Duke, the two players combined to go 9-of-16 from three point range, which allowed the team to overcome a 36 percent shooting effort. Smith finished the game with 29 points while Scheyer added 20.
The Blue Devils beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff, California, and Purdue all by double digits in their lead up to the Baylor game. Mike Krzyzewski has led his teams to a 6-1 National Semifinals record since 1990, losing only to Connecticut in 2004.
