Following the Cat and Dog fight that is Kentucky and Connecticut, the 2011 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament will be down to its final two, who will play for a National Championship on Monday. By the time UK and UConn tip the ball, half of this years championionship participants will have been decided. Schools like Kentucky and UConn are expected to be here but the big story is about the party crashers, VCU and Butler. The Wildcats and Huskies will get things started a half hour following the VCU/Butler game; about 9 pm Eastern.
Kentucky is the NCAA Basketball Odds favorite for this game but not by much. Looking at the betting board at Sportsbook.com, the Wildcats are giving 2-points ATS with a 140 1/2 total.
Trend watchers might get a little frustrated handicapping this game because both schools are so similar. Kentucky is riding a 10 game SU winning streak and UConn has won nine straight. Over the 10 game span, the Wildcats did well covering ATS for backers going 7-3-1. The Huskies did a little better covering ATS eight straight until their last game with Arizona when they came up short as a 3 1/2-chalk favorite with a two point victory.
Who will be your College Basketball Picks for the Championship Game of this years BIG DANCE? If you like to fade the public, you'd better put your chips on Kentucky as favorite, because UConn is catching a small 58% majority of side action and drawing 60% of money line bets as the underdog. Today's game total is a bookies dream right now with an even 50/50 wagering the OVER/UNDER.
Kentucky, a four-seed, has been getting better through each step of the way in this tournament. Their scariest game in the second round, a nail biter edging out 13-seed Princeton by a bucket 59-57. The Wildcats defeated West Virginia by eight 71-63 making it to the Sweet-16 where they beat No. 1 Ohio State 62-60. In the East Regional Finals Kentucky eliminated second-seed North Carolina by the score of 76-69.
Three-seed UConn took the Western route to the Final-Four having it easy with Bucknell in the second round and defeating BIG EAST rival Cincinnati in the second. The Huskies dispatched 2-seed San Diego State in the West Regional Semifinals before topping Arizona by two in the West finals.
I'm making the Wildcats my NCAA Basketall Picks choice giving 2-points.
