Will Tyler Hansbrough leave UNC with the National Championship Title he wants so badly or will his career at Chapel Hill be considered a disappointment if he does not win later tonight in the big dance against home town underdog Michigan State?
"Some people may look at it like that," stated North Carolina Tar Heels star center Tyler Hansbrough. "But I'm not going to necessarily say my career is a failure if I don't win…I've done a lot of things I'm proud of at North Carolina. I wouldn't change that. At the same time, I want to go out with a national championship."
Hansbrough gets to play his last game for the Tar Heels against a tough streaking No. 2 seed Michigan State squad that he beat by 35 points earlier in the year on this same court. While no one expected the Spartans to be in the Championship Game, that is far from the case for Hansbrough and his Tar Heels teammates. The No. 1 seed overall were made the early 2009 NCAA favorites to win it all by the oddsmakers at BodogLife.com and North Carolina is currently listed as a 7.5 point favorite against Michigan State.
"You've got to judge it on the body of work and what the young man has done," stated North Carolina head coach Roy Williams about Tar Heels Senior Tyler Hansbrough. "There have been some great coaches who haven't been able to get to the Final Four. There have been some great players."
Hansbrough is the all time leading scorer in UNC history which is pretty impressive when you consider the sort of talent that has come out of Chapel Hill including all time basketball great Michael Jordan.
BodogLife.com has posted NCAA Tournament Odds to win the 2009 National Championship Game:
North Carolina: –380
Michigan State: +290
Total Points: 153
