College Hoops Picks: Kentucky Wildcats vs. Central Arkansas Bears

by Alexander Banks on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

The Kentucky Wildcats 2007 basketball season gets underway today in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer with a 7:00 p.m. ET tip off at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky vs. the University of Central Arkansas Bears of the Southland Conference. Kentucky is a heavy 28-point favorite according to oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog (bodog.com).

Don’t expect 20th ranked Kentucky to be kind to the visiting team from Conway, Ark. Tuesday’s game is new coach Billy Gillispie’s Kentucky debut, an event that happens to fall on his 48th birthday. It can be assured; Gillispie’s team will reward their new coach by piling it on the undermanned Bears.

The danger in betting the favorite in this game is the chance of a back-door cover. Kentucky is sure to jump to a big lead quickly but will they maintain the intensity for 40 minutes? The Wildcats have the talent to win the game by 50 if they so desire. I think they do;  Kentucky by 30.

Tuesday’s college hoops action will begin at 4:00 p.m. ET from Rupp Arena when the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs tip-off with Alabama A&M. The Dogs are favored in the game by a -3 ½ point chalk.

Both Gardner-Webb and Alabama A&M are predicted to finish at or near the bottom of their respective leagues, Atlantic Sun and Southwestern Athletic. The ASC is ranked 29th and SWAC 31 in conference rankings. I like the favorite here, GW -3 1/2.

From the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tenn., Memphis University is a 28 ½-point favorite when they play the Richmond Spiders at 9:00 p.m. ET. Preceding that game Tennessee-Martin is a 2-point favorite in its game with Maine.

My Picks: Richmond +28 1/2 vs Memphis, Maine +2 vs Tenn-Martin.

In Monday’s 2K Sports Classic action, Memphis University blasted Tennessee-Martin with a SU 102-71 SU win but fell short of the 35-point favorites chalk.

The Richmond Spiders, favored by -6 in their game with Maine, won SU in a close low scoring affair 44-42 but fell short ATS.
