College Basketball Picks: 2007 UConn Huskies Betting Preview

College Basketball Picks: 2007 UConn Huskies Betting Preview Jimmy Boyd's 2007 Connecticut Huskies College Basketball picks, predictions and season preview will help you with your college basketball picks this year.  The Huskies return every major contributor from last season’s 17-win squad as well as all five starters.  UConn missed the NCAA Tourney for the first time in 20 seasons last year and their drought will be short lived as I feel this year’s team has the talent and experience to make a Sweet 16 run.  SportsBetting.com has the UConn Huskies at 50 to 1 to win the NCAA Basketball Championship.

The Huskies will be one of the better frontcourt teams in the country.  UConn has led the country in blocked shots six years in a row now and we can expect the Huskies to top the charts again with 7’3’’ center Hasheem Thabeet leading the way.  He led the Big East in blocks last season averaging 3.8 per game.  As a team, the Huskies totaled 8.58 blocks per contest.  Expect Thabeet to be much better offensively this season as well after working out with former UConn standout Emeka Okafor in the summer.

Jeff Adrien will be UConn's frontcourt double double man.  He averaged 13.1 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per game as a sophomore to be selected to the All-Big East second team.

The backcourt houses speed and depth to go around, but they are missing snipers who can knock it down from the perimeter like former UConn stars Ray Allen and Rip Hamilton.  Jerome Dyson, a 6’3’’ sophomore, got things figured out down the stretch as a frosh.  He is UConn’s top returning scorer at 13.8 points per game and was selected for the All-Big East second team.  This kid is the next UConn star.  Combo guard A.J. Price has huge expectations to live up to and the Huskies are hoping that he starts this season.  With Doug Wiggins bringing instant “O” to the table and Craig Austrie giving the Huskies another solid reserve, the backcourt looks to be in good shape.

UConn is on the verge of a title contender if Calhoun can keep some of these youngsters around a couple years.  They’ll likely come up short of a Big East title, but we expect a good showing in the postseason behind an offense which you will see push the ball more in 2007-08.  The Huskies have speed, size, and quickness.  Experience is their only downfall right now.

The UConn Huskies will pull off a nice turnaround this season and Huskies backers will profit from it.  Make cashing your bets on the Huskies look easy by betting them with Jimmy’s winning college basketball picks .
