Seton Hall Pirates Betting PreviewSeton Hall has suffered from a lack of size in the big and physical Big East.  Find out if Seton Hall can find a way to combat their interior problems in this 2007 Seton Hall Pirates betting preview. SportsBetting.com has Seton Hall at 50 to 1 to win the NCAA Championship.

With a major need for size, highly touted recruiter and head coach Bobby Gonzalez hit the recruiting trail hard.  He landed 6’11’’ 255-pound center Mike Davis, 6’10’’ 240-pound juco transfer Augustine Okosun, 6’9’’ Brandon Walters and 6’6’’ brick house Michael Glover-brother of former St. John's standout Anthony Glover.  These guys look like a promising crew for the future, but won't be ready to star just yet.

Seton Hall’s backcourt features the Big East’s top two returning scores in Brian Laing and Eugene Harvey.  Laing and Harvey both averaged 16.5 points per game last season with Laing also averaging 6.7 assists per contest.  A capable big is what is standing in the way of Seton Hall returning to form as a national player.  6’9’’ John Garcia could be the post presence the Pirates have been looking for if he can stay healthy.

Seton Hall’s up-tempo style makes them a difficult matchup in almost every game they play.  We feel confident that the Pirates will improve on last season’s four Big East wins.  This team is capable of a six to seven Big East wins this year.  With improved Big East play, the Pirates should boost their wins total by as many as five wins this season, perhaps climbing from 13 to 18 victories.  We don’t have Seton Hall emerging to the NCAA Tourney, but their tough schedule should make them a lock for the NIT.

The backcourt is not the problem.  Seton Hall has great guard depth and explosive scoring.  Laing and Harvey definitely do not weaken the Big East’s reputation as a guard conference.  As I’ve mentioned before, the frontcourt will hold this team back and will separate them from the league’s elite.

Seton Hall will likely plateau, if not take a step back, next season after losing Laing.  When Harvey is a senior, if he sticks around, Seton Hall should get back to the dance, which I’m sure you die-hard Pirates fans will be glad to know.
