College Basketball Picks: Louisville vs. Purdue

by Alexander Banks on Saturday, December 15th, 2007

Louisville and Purdue meet in the John Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis on Saturday with Louisville head coach Rick Pitino looking for his 500th career win.  Louisville will be playing without suspended forward Derrick Caracter on Saturday. Caracter is second on Louisville in scoring with 13.4 points and also averages 7.4 rebounds per game.  Caracter was nearly suspended last week but Pitino let him play.  That will not be the case on Saturday.  Louisville is already without injured starters David Padgett and Juan Palacios. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking Louisville on the Road.

SBG Global Opening Line: Louisville  -1 , Total 127.5

Louisville will be relying upon sophomore forward Earl Clark, who leads the team in scoring at 14.1 points per game. "We've got to get guys now learning new positions, go through as if it's October 15th again," Pitino said.

This will be the Cardinals' first game away from home since late last month.

Purdue is coming off a 73-63 loss to Missouri last Saturday in which they blew a 10 point second half lead. "We just have to learn how to finish games," sophomore guard Keaton Grant said. "That's definitely the biggest thing that we haven't learned yet." Grant had 13 points, while freshman E'Twaun Moore had 15 points. Leading scorer Scott Martin had only six points and fouled out.  It could be a low scoring game on Saturday.  Louisville is seventh in the nation in 3-point defense (26.4 percent) and ninth in opponents' field-goal shooting (36.3).
