Stanford Cardinal College Basketball Betting Preview PDF Print E-mail

Stanford Cardinal College Basketball Betting PreviewStanford was one and done in last year’s NCAA Tournament.  Can the Cardinal get back to the dance and get out of the first round?  Dave  Find out in this 2007 Stanford Cardinal betting preview just how far Dave thinks they can go. thinks so.  Sportsbetting.com has the Stanford Cardinals at 100 to 1 to win the NCAA Championship.

Stanford’s biggest problem last season was handling the basketball, and it was brutally exposed in a 20-point loss to Louisville in round one of the NCAA Tourney in which the Cardinal coughed it up 21 times.

We feel another year of maturity and constant preaching of taking care of the basketball by coach Trent Johnson will help Stanford be a more efficient team in 2007-08.

The frontcourt is perhaps the most dominant in the Pac-10.  7’0’’ sophomore twins Robin and Brook Lopez are the best center twins at Stanford since the Collins twins.  All joking aside, these guys can play.  Brook is the scorer and Robin is the defensive force.  Many are considering Brook Lopez an NBA lottery pick .  He averaged 12.6ppg last season after getting off to a late start due to fall back surgery.  He scored 20 or more in six of the final 12 games of the season.

Robin’s offensive game is not nearly as developed as his brothers, but he is a beast on defense.  He blocked 73 shots last season and had at least three in 12 different games.  6’8’’ forward, Lawrence Hill averaged 15.7ppg last season.  He proved to be the most clutch player for the Cardinal with a pair of game winners over Virginia and Washington.

Junior Anthony Goods did not prove to be the answer as Stanford’s point, but he did show that he is an explosive scorer averaging 12.8ppg.  He is really the only guy on the roster who can knock down threes and that ability will be very important to keep offensive balance.  Johnson won’t rely on any one guy to play the point.  He’ll likely let whoever has the most favorable matchup handle the rock to eliminate turnovers.  Junior Mitch Johnson will be doing some ball handling as well as transfer Drew Shiller.

Ball handling will ultimately hold this Stanford team back, but the Cardinal is stacked in the frontcourt.  With more experience, we feel Stanford will finish in the top half of the Pac-10 and advance out of the first round of the Tourney this season.  Expect a solid year in Palo Alto.

Make sure you’re on board with Dave Price this season for the most success on the college hardwood.

College Basketball Picks: South Carolina Gamecocks vs Providence College Friars PDF Print E-mail

College Basketball Picks: South Carolina Gamecocks vs Providence College FriarsThe South Carolina Gamecocks basketball team, amidst an early season slump losing three of its last four games, faces a daunting task in the Big East/SEC Invitational when they play the Providence College Friars (4-2) tonight in Philadelphia at the Wachovia Center. Last time out, South Carolina lost to rival Clemson 85-74 on Saturday. The Friars lost their rival Rhode Island 77-60 on Tuesday. The loss to Rhode Island ended a three-game Friars winning streak. PC has one win over a SEC team this season defeating Arkansas in Puerto Rico in early November.

Online sportsbook BetOnline.com has installed the Friars a -165 money line favorite and -3 ½ points ATS  while there is no total set. Betting trends have 97% of public bettors going with PC on the ML and 83% going with the Friars ATS.

South Carolina (4-4), which is picked to finish near the bottom of the SEC East, hasn’t packed its schedule with softies. The Gamecocks own a road win over Penn State but have dropped games to Southern California (at home), Clemson (on the road) and to North Carolina State and George Mason (neutral court).

PC played poorly in its loss at Rhode Island finishing with 10 assists against 19 turnovers and shot a lowly 30.4 percent from the field. Defensively, Providence allowed Rhode Island to connect on 50 percent of its field goal attempts. Brian McKenzie tallied 12 points to lead his team in defeat, while Dwain Williams and Jonathan Kale pitched in with 11 points apiece. Heading into the matchup with the Rams, five Friars were averaging double figures in scoring, led by McKenzie's 12.8 ppg. Considering that Providence was netting 76.7 ppg prior to that contest, the poor offensive effort against Rhode Island has to be considered an aberration.

Syracuse Orangemen College Basketball Betting Preview PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jeff Alexander
Wednesday, 05 December 2007
Syracuse Orangemen College Basketball Betting Preview Will the loss of three starters have Syracuse making a trip to the NIT again this year?  Insiders don’t think so.  Find out what this young team is capable of in Jeff Alexander's 2007 Syracuse Orangemen betting preview. SportsBetting.com has the Syracuse Orangemen at 40 to 1 to win the NCAA Championship.

This season’s Syracuse team looks a lot like the one that won it all in 2003 on paper.  Then, it was Carmelo Anthony and Gerry McNamara.  Now, Jim Boeheim will try to do it again with Donte Greene, who comes from Baltimore just like Anthony, and Jonny Flynn, a pure point.

Syracuse should have been in the Big Dance last season.  The Orange finished 24-11 overall and 10-6 in the Big East power conference which was good for a fifth place tie.  Jim Boeheim and his returning players will take this snub personal, making sure they leave no room for doubt to the selection committee this year.

The entire starting frontcourt is gone, but these guys were never the talents they were supposed to be, only leading ‘cuse to two NCAA Tourney victories in four years.  Boeheim will replace those three starters with Greene, sophomore forward Arinze Onuaku, and sophomore Paul Harris.  The 6’9’’ Greene will be a big matchup problem for opponents.  His ability to step out on the floor and knock down threes will force teams to play him with a small or risk a big getting pulled away from the basket.  Harris showed promise as a frosh averaging 8.6 points and 7.1 boards per game.

The backcourt is looking good with ‘cuse returning three guards who started at least 20 games last season.  Flynn could step right in and take over point guard duties.  If this is the case, that will allow Eric Devendorf to slide back over to the two position and Andy Rautins will be a sixth man spark off the bench.

As much as we would like to believe that this Syracuse team could be another Cinderella story like the 2003 team, it’s just not going to happen.  Melo was bigger, stronger, and a better rebounder than Greene is at this stage-a rare, once in a lifetime college prospect.  But Syracuse will make the Tourney and they will win their first round game.  But that’s where we see it ending as this much inexperience rarely is able to do more.

Jeff Alexander's Big East college basketball picks will frustrate your man all season long.  Jeff knows this 16-team power conference inside and out and he will give you a steady dose of Big East betting this year.  For the best college basketball picks money can buy, try Jeff Alexander on for size.
