Gonzaga or Santa Clara expected to emerge from WCC Tournament with NCAA bid

Gonzaga or Santa Clara expected to emerge from WCC Tournament with bid to NCAA TournamentWith the regular season behind them, the West Coast Conference (WCC) basketball teams turn their attention to the conference tournament and the leagues only bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga, the WCC regular season champion owns the No. 1 seed, while Santa Clara is the No. 2 seed, Saint Mary’s the No. 3 seed, and San Francisco the No. 4 seed. San Diego is the No 5 seed. The No. 7 seed Portland is the host for this year’s tournament and all games are played in Portland’s Earle A.Chiles Center. 

While the lower seeded teams in the West Coast Conference battle it out in quarterfinal action on Saturday (Mar. 3), top-seeds Gonzaga and Santa Clara wait and see who advances into the semi-final round on Sunday. With Gonzaga and Santa Clara earning a bye all the way to the semi-final round, based on the WCC regular season standings, the Bulldogs and Broncos wait to see who will emerge from the quarterfinals on Saturday.

 No. 6 seed Loyola Marymount was eliminated by No. 7 Portland and No. 8 seed Pepperdine was sent home by San Diego in first round action on Friday. No. 3 seed Saint Mary’s and No. 4 seed San Francisco will play the winners of Friday’s opening round beginning with San Diego vs. San Francisco at 9 p.m. EST and Portland vs. Saint Mary’s at 11:30 p.m. 

In tonight’s games, San Francisco is favored over San Diego by a slim -1 point chalk while Saint Mary’s is favored against Portland by -6 ½ points . All lines and totals are based on offshore odds at Wagerweb.com. 

on Sunday No. 1 seed Gonzaga will take on the winner of the San Francisco-San Diego game at 9 p.m. and No. 3 Santa Clara will play the winner of the Saint Mary’s-Portland game.
