kentucky anthony davisThe Kentucky Wildcats will see their first action since being crowned the nation’s No. 1 team when they face SEC rival Georgia tonight at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens. This evening’s conference clash is scheduled to get underway at 9:00pm ET on ESPN. The latest NCAAB Point Spread have the visiting Wildcats listed as a -12.5 against the spread favorite; tonight’s game total is set at 129 points.

Since falling 73-72 at Indiana on December 10th, John Calipari’s Wildcats have reeled off 11 straight wins to improve to 19-1 overall. Five of those victories have come in conference play with Kentucky knocking off South Carolina, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Alabama.

The Crimson Tide served as the Wildcats latest victim, falling 77-71 at Rupp Arena on Saturday. Alabama shot a better field goal percentage, three point percentage, and free throw percentage than Kentucky, and it even secured a 32-30 edge on the boards, yet it could not get within five of the Wildcats.

Kentucky, which went to the charity stripe 40 times in the win, had six players in double figures, including freshman Anthony Davis, who scored 11 points, grabbed nine rebounds, blocked four shots, and recorded four steals.

Georgia comes into tonight’s game having lost four of its last five contests, all of which were against SEC opposition. The Bulldogs entered league play on a five game win streak, but they opened their conference slate with a home loss to the aforementioned Crimson Tide before going on to lose road games at Florida and Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs ended that skid with a 57-53 overtime win in Athens against Tennessee, but they quickly fell back in the ditch with a 66-63 home loss to Mississippi State on Saturday.

Despite Georgia’s struggles, it has experienced reasonable success against Kentucky over the last few seasons, winning three of its six games opposite the Wildcats. The Bulldogs are also 5-4-1 against the spread in their last 10 meetings with Kentucky. However, given the way Georgia has played this season (10-9 overall), those numbers hardly seem reassuring for people looking to back the Bulldogs tonight. Conversely, Wildcats fans can not only take comfort in the way their team has performed, they can also feel good in the fact that the road team has covered the number eight times in the last nine meetings between these two rivals.
