UCLA Bruins (26-5) vs. Weber State Wildcats (20-11) 7:25 p.m. Line UCLA -20 (127 total). Weber State would like to slow it down against UCLA to have a chance but will have a difficult time going against the talent of Ben Howland’s Bruins. UCLA guards Aaron Affalo and Darren Collison will dominate the backcourt against the under experienced Wildcats.Point-Spreads.com pick: OVER 127.
Duke Blue Devils (22-10) vs. Virginia Commonwealth Rams (27-6) 7:10 p.m. Line Duke – 6 ½ (134 ½) total. The 2006-07 version of Duke basketball isn’t your ordinary run of the mill Blue Devils. They actually look human which isn’t a good thing considering they are playing one of the best mid-major programs in the country when they tip it off against the VCU Rams. Coach Mike Krzyzewski is concerned about his team’s problem in putting up points something the Rams don’t want Duke to do. VCU has the talent and desire to keep this game close. Experience is on Dukes side and the line is friendly. Point-Spreads.com pick: Duke -6 ½. Pitt Panthers (27-7) vs. Wright State Raiders (23-9) 9:40 p.m. Line Pitt -10 (119 ½ total). Wright State is playing a high level brand of basketball right now coming out of the Horizon League with the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The Raiders don’t have the resume against bigger schools as does Co-Horizon League regular season champ Butler but they have the potential to cause trouble in the Big-Dance. First year coach Brad Brownell knows if his team can get behind Horizon League player of the year and leading scorer Dashaun Wood that anything can happen. Pitt is loaded and will be a viable force, especially inside where the Raiders might have some problems. Point-Spreads.com pick. OVER 119 ½. Indiana Hoosiers (20-10) vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (23-10) 9:55 p.m. Line Indiana -1 ½ (142 total). Gonzaga might play in a mid-major league but after nine straight visits to the big dance the Bulldogs have shown the country that they are a power to be respected. Indiana would like to get back to that power status under coach Kelvin Sampson. Both Gonzaga and Indiana depend on good defense and rebounding. Derek Raivio has done a nice job for Gonzaga in taking over the scoring lead after the departure of All-American Adam Morrison. Point-Spread pick: Gonzaga + 1 ½. |
