Southern Conference tips-off March Madness with SO-CON TournamentMarch Madness officially begins today (Feb. 28) when the Southern Conference opens up tournament play with the first game tipping off at 3 p.m. EST when the No. 9 seed Wofford Terriers and No. 8 seed UT-Chattanooga Moccasins tip-off from the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, SC. In that game, the Moccasins are favored by a -3.0 point chalk at Bodog.com offshore sportsbook. First round Southern Conference action continues at 5:30 p.m. when the No 6 seed West Carolina Catamounts (-2.0 favorite) battles No. 10 seed Elon College Phoenix and at 8 p.m. when No. 7 seed Georgia Southern Eagles (-9.0 favorite) take on The Citadel Bulldogs.  No. 1 seed Davidson, No. 2 Appalachian State, No 3 College of Charleston, No 4 UNC Greensboro and No. 5 Furman earned byes in the opening round of the 2007 Southern Conference Tournament.

 

Quarterfinal action begins on Thursday, March 1 when No. 1 seed Davidson takes on the winner of the Chattanooga-Wofford contest at 2:00 p.m. followed by No. 4 seed UNC Greensboro plays No. 5 seed Furman. In the evening session, No. 2 seed Appalachian State battles the winner of the Western Carolina-Elon game at 7:00 followed by No. 3 seed College of Charleston vs. the winner of the Georgia Southern-The Citadel game.

Semifinal games are slated for Friday March 2 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Southern Conference Championship game will take place on Saturday, March 3 at 6 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.

The Davidson College Wildcats are the defending SoCon Tournament champion and had the best overall league record (17-1) and a season record of 26-4. The Appalachian State Mountaineers had the leagues second best league record (15-3) and a 24-6 season record. The College of Charleston also posted a 20 win season.

 The tournament winner earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
