The Sun Belt Conference 2007 men’s basketball tournament gets underway tonight (Feb. 28) with first round action being played at campus sites. The first game has the No. 6 seed Florida Atlantic University Owls hosting No. 11 seed Florida International with tip-off at 7 p.m. EST at FAU Arena in Boca Raton, Fla. The Owls are favored by a -6 ½ point chalk with the total set at 148 at offshore sportsbook BetUS.com. Other first round action has the New Orleans University Privateers (UNO -4, total 140) hosting the Trojans of UA-Little Rock, Troy State Trojans (-2 ½, total-off) welcomes Middle Tennessee, North Texas (-9, total 141 ½ ) plays Louisiana-Lafayette while Denver is a 12 point favorite (total 141) at home to Louisiana-Monroe. After tonight’s first round is completed the Sun Belt Conference Tournament will re-commence for quarterfinal action on Monday, March 4 at the Cajundome on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, La. Semi-finals will be played on Tuesday, March 5 and the championship game to be televised by ESPN2 will take place at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6.Â
The University of South Alabama is the No. 1 seed and the Arkansas State University Indians are the No. 2 seed. Both South Alabama and Arkansas State received first round byes. Also earning a first round bye is the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.Â
When quarterfinal action commences on Monday, South Alabama will play the winner of tonight’s Troy-MTSU game while Arkansas State will play the winner of the UALR-UNO contest. Western Kentucky will play the winner of the FAU-FIU game.
