The Iowa Hawkeyes and the South Carolina Gamecocks will let their feathers fly this morning when they meet at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The two squads are the participants in the 23rd annual Outback Bowl which kicks off at 11:00am ET and will be televised on ESPN. South Carolina figured to be a powerhouse this season, returning 17 starters from last year's 6-6 team, but they only improved by one game, finishing at 7-5. The Gamecocks did put together a nice four game winning streak in the middle portion of their season, however, they dropped their final two games in embarrassing fashion at Florida and at Clemson. Steve Spurrier's troops finished 4-4 in conference play and in fourth place in the SEC's East division.

The Gamecocks are a formidable defensive group as they held opponents to just 289.1 yards per game and 20.3 points per game.

Iowa made a two game improvement this season as they jumped their record up to 8-4 after finishing at 6-6 last year. The Hawkeyes did incur a three game losing streak after storming out of the gates 3-0, but they wrapped up the season on a roll, winning five of their last six. Head Coach Kirk Ferentz guided his team to a 5-3 conference record and a fifth place Big 10 finish.

The Hawkeyes held teams to an unbelievable 13.3 points per game on 289.5 yards per game. Offensively they got things done on ground, rushing for 189.7 yards per game on the legs of junior tailback Shonn Greene. Greene racked up an eye-popping 1729 rushing yards (6.2 yards per carry) and 17 touchdowns.
