The Virginia Tech Hokies and Cincinnati Bearcats will go at it tonight in the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl. The prestigious event, which was first played in 1935 between Bucknell and Miami (FL), kicks off at 8:30 pm ET at Dolphin Stadium in Miami and will be televised on FOX.  College bowl picks at Sportsbook.com have the Bearcats listed as a -2 favorite.Virginia Tech vs Cincinnati 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl

Virginia Tech had an inauspicious beginning to the 2008 season when they lost 22-27 at East Carolina; however, they followed up that loss with a five game winning streak. The Hokies eventually earned their way to the ACC Championship Game by going 5-3 in conference play and winning the Coastal division. Frank Beamer's squad dismantled Boston College 30-12 to win the ACC and finish with a 9-4 overall record. The Hokies are currently ranked 19th in the BCS standings.

Tech's stingy defense has been the key to their success; the tough unit has held opponents to 17.5 points per game.

The Bearcats, while they did finish 10-3 last season in Head Coach Brian Kelly's first year with the program, surprised almost everyone by winning the Big East Championship this season. Cincinnati went 6-1 in conference play and finished out the year at 11-2. Had it not been for a sloppy, six turnover over affair at Connecticut, the Bearcats would have went unblemished in the Big East.

Cincinnati, currently ranked 12th in the AP Poll, the USA Today Poll and the BCS standings, averaged 27.3 points per game this year and gave up just 20.2 in return.

Orange Bowl Betting Trend: The Over is 4-1 in Virginia Tech's last five games against a Big East school with a total between 41.5 and 44.

Sportsbook.com's Virginia Tech vs Cincinnati 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl Betting Odds:
