LSU vs. Penn State College Bowl Picks – 2010 Capital One Bowl: In what looks to be the most evenly matched college football bowl game of New Years Day, the 2010 Capital One Bowl matches up LSU (9-3) of the SEC versus No. 11 Penn State (10-2) of the Big Ten Conference. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET from Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
The key to today's game will be determined by who can move the ball versus the other teams defense as neither teams offense dominated during the regular season. Both LSU and Penn State are playing on New Years day because of their respective defenses.
The Nittany Lions are led defensively by 2009 Big Ten Defensive Player and Defensive Lineman of the year, Jared Odrick. For LSU, Patrick Peterson, one of the nation’s elite cornerbacks, ranked third in the SEC in passes defended with 14. The sophomore registered 47 tackles and two interceptions while returning a blocked field goal 53 yards for a touchdown at Ole Miss. Chad Jones, a two-sport standout from Baton Rouge, led all LSU defensive backs in tackles with 66, including 1.5 tackles for loss. He racked up three interceptions, five pass breakups and returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown at Mississippi State. Kelvin Sheppard leads the team with 103 tackles, including 8.5 for loss.
