Texas A&M vs Oklahoma Prediction 2013 Cotton Bowl Odds

by Matt Foust on Friday, January 4th, 2013

cotton bowl logoLongtime adversaries Texas A&M and Oklahoma will renew their rivalry later tonight when they butt heads in the 2013 Cotton Bowl. This evening’s meeting between the Aggies and Sooners is scheduled to get underway at 8:00pm ET at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas; the game will be televised live on FOX. The latest 2013 Cotton Bowl Odds are favoring Texas A&M at -3 against the spread while the Over/Under is coming in at 73 points.

Texas A&M vs Oklahoma Prediction (+/-3, Over/Under 73): Most college football pundits felt Texas A&M’s switch to the SEC would result in a miserable 2012 season for the Aggies. Obviously those prognostications were proven foolhardy as Head Coach Kevin Sumlin guided his team to a 10-2 record and a third place finish in the SEC West with a 6-2 conference record. Texas A&M, the only team to knock off Alabama this season, had a stunning amount of offensive success in the defensive heavy SEC, averaging over 550 yards and 44 points per game. The Aggies also saw redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel, who threw for 3419 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 1181 yards and 19 scores, win the Heisman Trophy. Despite its incredible season, Texas A&M will have its hands full with Oklahoma. The Sooners had two unexpected home losses this season, falling to Kansas State and Notre Dame in Norman, but they surged down the stretch. Bob Stoops’ squad won its last five games, outpacing its opposition, which included some pretty salty teams in Baylor, Oklahoma State, and TCU, by an average of 6.8 points per game. Oklahoma, which is more than familiar with the Aggies offense, could have a mental edge this contest as well. Stoops is used to beating up on Texas A&M with the Sooners posting an 8-1 record in their last nine meetings with their former Big 12 rival (average margin of victory in those eight wins = 28.5 points). Cotton Bowl Betting Trend: Oklahoma is 5-1 both straight up and against the spread dating back to 2000 when playing as an underdog with a spread between 0 and 3.5 points and total of 54.5 or more points.
