Associate Head Coach Steve Stripling will serve as interim Head Coach for Central Michigan in tomorrow's GMAC Bowl. Former coach Butch Jones was hired to take over at Cincinnati after Brian Kelly took the Notre Dame job. Jones became the second consecutive Chippewas head coach to depart for the Bearcats, the other being the aforementioned Kelly.
Troy also won its third conference title in the last four seasons, crusing through its Sun Belt opposition at an 8-0 clip. The Trojans finished 9-3 overall with losses to Bowling Green, Florida, and Arkansas. Head Coach Larry Blakeney guided his squad to back-to-back wins to close out the regular season, beating league foes Florida Atlantic and Louisiana-Lafayette by a combined socre of 95-52.
The GMAC Bowl represents the Trojans fourth postseason appearance in the last six years. Troy is 1-2 in its previous three bowl outings, which includes a 27-30 overtime loss to Southern Miss in last year's New Orleans Bowl.
