by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, January 5th, 2013

Point-Spreads.com breaks down the 2013 BCS National Championship Game Point Spreads between the SEC Champion Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1) and the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-0) which kicks off on January 7th at 8:00 PM EST from Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida and will be aired on ESPN. The odds makers have the current BCS point spreads listing the Alabama Crimson Tide -9.5 point favorites against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame Football 2012The No. 1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish come into the 2013 BCS National Championship game after a perfect season which saw them beat four Top 20 ranked opponents. The Irish almost did not make it into this game, on November 3rd as heavy favorites to Pitt which took them into triple overtime before they were able to win 29-26. The near loss energized Notre Dame for the rest of the season. Sophomore quarterback Everett Golson beat out Junior Tommy Rees for the starting job and the move clearly paid dividends for Notre Dame. Golson was a stud, throwing for 11 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions with 5 additional touchdowns on the ground.

The No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide pretty much blew everyone out all season in their wins other than when they had to come from behind against LSU on the last play of the game to win 21-17 in Baton Rouge on November 3rd. The emotion win took it’s toll on the Tide, the following weekend they suffered a surprising 29-24 home loss to Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel’s Texas A&M squad. Alabama won the SEC West and took on the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2012 SEC Championship Game which they were able to survive and get a 32-28 win after trailing late in the second half. Running back Eddie Lace was named the 2012 SEC Championship Game MVP after rushing for 181 yards on 20 carries and 2 touchdowns.

The odds makers have the money lines showing Alabama -365 odds and Notre Dame +305 odds.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly was named the AP Coach of the Year and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award winner after leading the Irish to an undefeated season in his third year on the job and getting them to the BCS Title game. If Kelly can win the biggest game of his career, he will go down in Irish coaching history as a National Champion along with legends Lou Holtz, Ara Parseghian, Frank Leahy and Knute Rockne.

Alabama coach Nick Saban is certainly no stranger to the spotlight of the big game and more specifically the National Championship. Saban is going for his fourth BCS Title and third as the head coach of Alabama. A win will give Alabama their 3 BCS National Championship in the last 4 seasons.

2013 BCS National Championship Prediction: The biggest question in my mind is how will the Notre Dame defense perform against Alabama’s incredible dual threat rushing attack. The Irish defense lead by linebacker Manti Te’o will not get a break considering that both Crimson Tide running backs (Eddie Lace and TJ Yeldon) are averaging over 6.4 yards per carry combined for 27 touchdowns and each got over 1,000 yards rushing this season. I see this being a low scoring affair so am taking the dog on both the money line and the spread. I think Alabama will win the game, despite my money line wager however I always like to big underdog wagers that have such juicy odds when history is on the line. I snagged the Irish +10 and Notre Dame +305 odds.
